200

11 Feb

Awwwwwww yeaahhh.  We have officially hit post # 200 on the new site. I remember when I first started, I was just sifting through all of the shit on hotnewhiphop and basically selecting the best songs each day. 2.5 years, 2 sites, and 1 letter from the FCC later, we are where we stand now. I would like to thank all those who have the supported the cause thus far and I promise that I will continue to keep your iTunes up to date.

Much love,

H

Ice me, I dare you

1 Aug

Although I used to completely hate the house parties that went down in my town on weekends, I now have a reason to dislike them a little less: Smirnoff Ice. Yes, everyone knows that icing someone is cool and funny as hell, but I prefer enjoying the entertainment of watching someone else be iced as opposed to being iced myself (Common sense right?). So when someone did ice me this weekend, I went Tosh.O on his ass. Check this out:

they have moxie

1 Aug

mox·ie

1. The ability to face difficulty with spirit and courage.
2. Aggressive energy; initiative: “His prose has moxie, though it rushes and stumbles from a pent-up surge” (Patricia Hampl).
3. Skill; know-how.

Why are we looking at the dictionary definition of Moxie? Well, I recently came across a young group called Moxie Black, and after I listened to some of their stuff, I realized that their name was quite appropriate. The sound they have is unique and skillfully aggressive. Its a real different sound than a lot of other groups. Categorically, they are considered to be hip hop, but to be honest this is not you typical hip hop group. Check it out yourself. And to my boy Esteban (and any other athletes out there), if you are reading, this is a killer track to workout to cause thanks to the awesome beat.

So Much Better by Moxie Black

PS – J. Cole is the MAN… definitely one of my top 3 favorite singers, solid post Skins

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes

28 Jul

Hmmm, Edward Sharpe? Magnetic Zeroes? What is this some weird hippy stoner band? Well, yes and no. What this band has is certainly a unique and really quite melodic sound, however, it is much to awesome to be limited to the hippy stoners out there. To be quite honest, I had vaguely heard of Alex Ebert, the leader singer for the band, but I had not ever really listened to his music. So what prompted me to listen to these guys? This past week, I heard a few people mention the name, namely because a secretary in my office went to their concert and couldnt stop raving about it and because I saw this really sweet video here that uses the song “Home” as the background music. I was impressed, and now I feel obligated to tell you all. I am sure, however, that although under the radar, this band is not new to all of you. However, if it is, you should definitely check it out.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes – 40 Day Dream

Oh yeah, and definitely check out that video, the song is dope. As for who Edward Sharpe is? Well, Edward Sharpe. According to Ebert,  “was sent down to Earth to kinda heal and save mankind…but he kept getting distracted by girls and falling in love.” That sounds like a pretty cool dude to me (definitely a hippy though)

Due to the growing popularity and following of H-Nation, he will help me continue to grow and bring you all fresh new music on a daily basis. Show him some love, the kid knows his music. Plus now I can go on vacation and not worry about missing a post here and there. Welcome to the team bro, dont f*** up or I’ll kill you. Just kidding, but seriously.

And to all the fans out there , thank you for the continued support. The fun has just begun.

Fresh Beets

5 Jul

Aright, so I have been waiting for a while to use this picture cause it is dope. The tracks in this post are also some of my favorite from the past week and made me want to finally post this pic in the site. They are all solid songs overall and are a must haves on the summer playlists. Hopefully you enjoy them as much as I did.

The Dean’s List – PlayGround ** This has summer song written all over it, real chillin beat.

Chris Webby – I Need A Dollar (Feat. Mac Miller) ** This guy has easily become one of my favorite singers in the past few months. This songs is real solid and the beat is dope, he continues to surprise me.

Big Boi – Throw Ya Hands Up ** So recently I have been sent the link to a Big Boi mixtape that consists of a wopping 22 tracks. Some of them have been released, others are completely new, and even more are remakes of past version.. including this one. This track however, stood out above the others

throwback thursday

18 Mar

I was going through all my old music and I came across a good throwback song for the weekend.

1:48 – I need a watch like that

That video makes me want summer soo badly. Plus, it doesnt hurt that the weather has actually been unreal for the past few days and is only going to get better this weekend. 75 degrees and sunny on Saturday?? Time to bust out the shorts, lax pinny, mid-calves and a sweeet pair of shades. Can’t wait.

As for music, there wasn’t too much going on this week that is really of note. There is a pretty cool song by cypress hill called armada latina that has a chillin beat and a few others that are solid. Check them out, but most importantly, make sure you enjoy the nice weather while it last. You never know when the weather is gonna go back to shit and well be stuck with rain for a week.

Cypress Hill – Armada Latina (Feat. Pitbull & Marc Anthony)

Snoop Dogg – Pronto (G-Mix) (Feat. Soulja Boy And Bun B)

Roscoe Dash – Feelin like Dis **pretty solid beat
