Cris Cab

7 May

My roommate, a Miami native and lover of all things from the area, has been telling me a singer out of the region by the name of Cris Cab. I’ll be honest, I took an awfully long time to heed his advice and give this kid a listen, but recently I’ve had a chance to really sit down and give it a listen. The result? I am happy I finally took my roomy’s advice. Cris Cab has a real mellowed out reggae sound that kinda reminds me of Slightly Stoopid in a bunch of ways. He has a few solid covers and also some original songs that are real nice. Definitely check him out… Its great study music for all you who are in the middle of finals like I am. For more info, check his official website over here.

Mr. Brown (Robotic Pirate Monkey Remix)

2 Apr

I will be honest, I have been insanely slow on the whole dubstep movement that seems to be taking over this country. To be even more honest, I really dislike the genre as a whole. That being said, I am trying to get into the whole dubstep sound and now I can handle it to a certain degree. This track by Robotic Pirate Monkey fits the bill perfectly. Overall, a real sick track that all should be able to enjoy.

Stephen Marley – Jah Army

This is just a straight chillin track by the Marley brothers. The beat is sick, and Stephen an Damien do work on the lyrics. For all who appreciate reggae, check it out.

Lauryn Hill: Revisited

2 Aug

Lauryn Hill is a name that many of you may not know that you have actually heard, but actually have. Originally a member of The Fugees (Where she jammed with Wyclef Jean before he got huge and a little someone name Pras, a pretty dope Haitian-American singer), Lauryn Hill established herself as a hip hop/ reggae / soul singer with an incredible voice and very emotional lyrics.  Anyways, as each individual went on in search of solo success, Lauryn Hill hit the ground running with her album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” It is not a new album by any means, but is one that you should need to check out if you havent done so before.

Gyptian just came out with an album, Hold You, this month. I listened to it and must say that most of it is too slow. Makes him sound like a Bob Marley wannabe. But…these two songs caught my ear. Great beats for rolling down the windows and cruising to the beach on a hot summer day. I know cuz I’ve done it. Hold Yuh has been on the radio for a while but this is the remix with one of my favorites, Rock City. I had never heard of Nah Let Go til I listened to the album. Great beat and music. Look out for hits by Gyptian once in a while.
